Top players from the YOSA Philharmonic perform side-by-side with their teachers and mentors. San Antonio Symphony Concertmaster Eric Gratz will be the soloist in Mozart’s elegant Violin Concerto No. 4, written when the composer was only 19 years old. The rest of the program features exuberant and carefree music from three different centuries.

This year, YOSA will honor Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff for his outstanding commitment to education and arts in San Antonio. Proceeds from this event benefit Youth Orchestras of San Antonio (YOSA), whose music education programs reach more than 3,000 local young musicians every year.

Also, cellist Christine Lamprea, a YOSA alumna and Sphinx Medal of Excellence winner, returns to San Antonio as soloist in the electrifying and virtuosic Cello Concerto No. 1 by Shostakovich, who was strongly influenced by Stravinsky.

The 2020 YOSA Invitational will give 20 local school bands and orchestras the chance to record and perform in the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts’ renowned H-E-B Performance Hall, San Antonio’s premier concert venue, free of charge to all participating ensembles. 2019/20 Season Auditions

In 2019/20, YOSA’s Orchestra program consists of nine orchestras (two full orchestras, a wind ensemble, a flute choir, and five string orchestras) of graded ability. Musicians are placed in the orchestra appropriate for their ability through the annual audition process in early-June. All auditions must be completed by the published June audition dates.

Join YOSA for the fifth annual YOSApalooza featuring all nine YOSA orchestras together for one spectacular concert. A simulcast of the concert will be broadcast on the giant screen in the Will Naylor Smith Plaza along the San Antonio River Walk. 

This is a free concert, but tickets in the H-E-B Performance Hall are limited to three per family.

And YOSA celebrates Troy Peters’ 10th anniversary as music director with dazzling evocations of spring by Lili Boulanger and Aaron Copland.
