What to Expect
1. Register For Auditions
You’ll need an account to schedule an audition; if you don’t have an account yet, you’ll be prompted to create one. Once you’ve registered, use the link in the confirmation email to schedule your audition.
2. Practice Your Audition Music
We have selected excerpts we expect musicians to perform for their auditions. View the audition excerpts and requirements for your instrument and be prepared to perform all components of your audition.
Feeling Nervous?
YOSA Music Director, Troy Peters, will walk you through what to expect on audition day, step by step, and offer some tips and best practices so you can fully prepare ahead of time and feel confident for your YOSA audition. You got this!
3. Take the Stage!
Auditions take place at San Pedro Presbyterian Church, on May 26-30, 2026.
Musicians enter at the sanctuary and check in with a YOSA Staff member (see map here). Musicians will audition in the order they arrive and finish within their audition hour.
Musicians will tune and warm up in a common space where they can leave their belongings. They will be escorted to their audition room.
When musicians enter the audition room, they will be greeted by two judges. They may be asked about themselves or their experiences. Then, musicians will play their audition excerpts and sightread.
After their audition, musicians will be escorted back to the common waiting area.
Audition Results
Audition results and placement acceptance instructions will be emailed to families 1-3 weeks after auditions using the email that was provided when you signed up for your audition.
Summer Symphony Camp
Musicians who audition can enroll in Summer Symphony Camp as late as 2 days before camp starts. Musicians who participate in Summer Symphony Camp can use their camp audition for the season, and can also enroll in YOSA Orchestras until September 1, 2026.
