Zachry Series 1: Russian Fireworks with Christine Lamprea

Cellist Christine Lamprea, YOSA Alumna and 2018 Sphinx Medal of Excellence winner, returns to San Antonio as a featured soloist alongside the YOSA Philharmonic in Russian Fireworks, Sunday, November 3, 2019, 7:00 p.m. at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.

The first concert of YOSA’s 2019/20 Zachry Series features a dramatic and colorful program with orchestral works from Russian composers, such as Stravinsky’s orchestral suite from The Firebird, a fairytale ballet based on Russian folklore, and the electrifying and virtuosic Cello Concerto No. 1 by Shostakovich, performed by Christine Lamprea.

Christine Lamprea joins YOSA in this special performance a month after delivering an inspiring keynote address at the 2019 YOSA Standing Ovation Luncheon, where she fondly recalled her time at YOSA and acknowledged the impact the organization had on her musical journey. Current YOSA musicians will have the chance to work with the renowned professional whose beginnings are similar to their own. During the week prior to the November 3 concert, Ms. Lamprea will participate in a week-long YOSA residency, including visits to local schools and a mentorship session with YOSA Rising Star Fellows.
