Eugene Dowdy

Resident Conductor

Eugene Dowdy is an associate professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio where he is Director of Orchestral Studies, conductor of the UTSA Orchestra and Lyric Theatre, and head of instrumental conducting. Dr. Dowdy conducted YOSA’s Symphony Orchestra from 1984 to 1992 and was Interim Philharmonic Conductor in 2000. He researched and wrote YOSA’s history for his doctoral essay at the University of Iowa in 1995. He also serves as associate conductor for the Symphony of the Hills (Kerrville), and is the founding director of the UTSA String Project. He is a past president of TODA and TexASTA.
