YOSA, the premier orchestral experience for youth citywide, enhances education, enriches the community, and transforms lives by pursuing excellence in classical music in a stimulating, nurturing, and fun environment that is equally accessible to all youth. Programs include nine orchestras, a two-week YOSA Summer Symphony Camp, and partnerships with schools across Bexar county.
Every June, YOSA holds auditions for the nine orchestras. Musicians must be between 8 and 20 years of age with at least one year of playing experience. Participation in your school’s music program is mandatory. Home-schooled students are welcome to audition and participate. The YOSA Orchestras rehearse throughout the school year and present concerts to the community in venues around the city.
The YOSA Summer Symphony Camp is the only full orchestra camp in the San Antonio metropolitan area, including opportunities for strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. This two-week day camp starts around the end of June.
Season-opening Mo-Ranch weekend is a great kick-off for the musicians of the YOSA Philharmonic, Symphonic Winds, and Symphony. This intensive and fun overnight music retreat in Hunt, Texas, starts the YOSA orchestra season in mid-August.
YOSA is committed to working with public and private schools throughout greater San Antonio.
YOSA MÁS:Music At School is and intense school partnership program. YOSA’s most comprehensive school partnerships are with the Roosevelt High School Compact in NEISD and the Edgewood Fine Arts Academy in EISD.
YOSA’s goal is to ensure that young musicians are not turned away due to financial circumstance and that assistance is provided to those in need.
