YOSA Musician Wins 2nd Grand Prize in Science Fair
Posted April 6, 2011
YOSA Prelude Strings member Celeste De La Torre won second grand prize in her division at the Alamo Regional Science & Engineering Fair in early March.
Celeste and her science partner, Diane Squire, conducted their research experiment at Good Samaritan Community Services. Their project sought to examine the difference in reading comprehension using electronic books versus paper books. The girls tested 24 GSCS students in 3rd through 5th grade. The test scores were higher when paper materials were used rather than electronic texts. In appreciation for the cooperation of the GSCS staff and youth program participants, Celeste and Diane donated eight Kindle Wireless Readers to GSCS.
Congratulations to Celeste and Diane on their accomplishment.
