Swine Flu Alert

NO cancellations: Please view YOSA's swine flu message

YOSA is aware of the potential pandemic of the N1H1 flu virus (swine flu) and is keeping a close watch on all school closings and precautionary advising by the Texas Department of State Health Services and any school closings.

All rehearsals, concerts, and the Marlon Chen tribute Dinner will continue as scheduled. Please check this Web site for any updates. (Don't forget that Sinfonietta Strings and Symphony Orchestra will be rehearsing at Laurie Auditorium - there are no YOSA activities scheduled at UTSA this weekend.)

Students attending schools which have been closed due to precautions related to N1H1 flu virus cases in their area SHOULD NOT attend any YOSA rehearsals or concerts until their school has been reopened. We have been in direct communication with the half dozen YOSA families who this affects. At present, no schools in Bexar County have been closed. The students in Comal and Scherz-Cibolo school districts have been sent home with specific requests from their school districts to avoid large groups of people. YOSA would clearly fall into this definition and we will respect the request of the school officials in those districts. We have submitted messages to officials in the closed districts requesting information on any potential re-openings and will contact the YOSA students this affects should the situation change.

For all other students and families, please follow the advisory messages from many health care professionals:

1. Be sure to wash hands regularly and cough into your sleeve (not your hand).
2. Anyone with symptoms of a respiratory illness, and their household members, should stay home and avoid close contact with others.

Thank you.
