Benefits of Giving to YOSA
With the support of gifts and grants, YOSA brings these benefits to San Antonio and the region through multiple programs and services.
With your generous support we can do the following:
- Provide orchestral music education and performance opportunities to almost 500 young musicians this season. YOSA provides programs from the beginning level to the highest level available in San Antonio, going beyond the capacity of most school orchestra programs.
- Retain some of the most experienced music educators and professional musicians in the community to conduct YOSA's six orchestras or to coach instrument sections. Many of our coaches are musicians with the San Antonio Symphony. Especially for YOSA's most accomplished musicians in the Philharmonic Orchestra, your support will help provide a degree of "real-life immersion" in orchestral music making. The students are mentored by the professional musicians and perform at venues such as Trinity University's Laurie Auditorium to audiences composed of many regular classical concert goers.
- Provide tuition assistance to about 60 students based on demonstrated financial need. Each season YOSA budgets more than $20,000 for this purpose.
- Enrich the cultural life of the community by presenting almost twenty concerts, including the top-level YOSA Philharmonic Orchestras' Gold Series and side-by-side chamber and full orchestra concerts with the San Antonio Symphony.
- Purchase music for each orchestra and instruments to loan the children in our free beginner programs.
- Offer the region's most comprehensive summer day camp for young strings musicians.
- Stage an International Tour every three years for members of the two full orchestras (the next one is scheduled for 2010).
- Provide access to the life-changing reward of music education by enabling almost 100 students to learn an instrument through YOSA's weekly Beginning Strings program and everyday after-school program at the Good Samaritan Center on the West Side.
